The Top 10 Most Expensive Electric Cars For The Year 2023
The automotive industry is rapidly shifting towards electric cars, and the luxury car market is no exception. A selection of electric cars stand out not only for their cutting-edge design but also for their hefty prices, combining zero-emission performance with luxurious features and the latest technology.
In this article, we will review the most expensive electric cars available to date, and we will reveal the exceptional features that these cars offer to the lucky few who seek to own sustainable luxury on wheels.
This list, ranked by starting price from highest to lowest, consists of expensive electric cars — excluding limited-production supercars or hypercars — as well as cars that are currently in production or will appear later this year.
1- Rolls Royce Specter
Smooth, quiet and low-vibration, just as Rolls-Royce owners expect from their luxury car, and that’s exactly what the all-new Specter aims to achieve. Like Rolls-Royce’s V12 cars, which are described as land yachts, the luxury car company’s latest model should provide the expected power, but owners will never have to smell exhaust fumes.

Combined, the Specter’s dual motors produce 577 hp, enough to take the car from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, while the 100-plus kWh battery pack provides a driving range of approximately 482 km.
The highly customizable Specter model features an advanced suspension system that is expected to provide unparalleled ride quality as well. Production of Rolls-Royce’s first electric car begins later this year.
Pricing starts at $400,000
2- Cadillac Celestic
If the Specter’s design seems too classic, the upcoming Celestiq certainly isn’t. Cadillac hasn’t made a memorable sedan in some time, but that will change later this year when the super-luxury and very expensive electric car goes into production.
Each Celestiq device is handcrafted and features more than 100 3D printed parts – certain pieces that are impossible to create using traditional means. Inside, the luxury electric sedan will feature a huge 55-inch screen that spans the width of the dashboard and offers Ultra Cruise, an evolution of the Super Cruise hands-free driving system that consists of multiple cameras, radars and lidar.
Each Celestiq will be run and built to customer specifications so you won’t find a Celestiq at many dealers and probably no two Celestiqs will be identical.
Pricing starts at $300,000
3- BMW i7 electric car
The i7 is the all-electric version of the BMW 7 Series Sedan and is of course more expensive than the gas-powered 7 Series, as well as the most expensive non-performance sedan in the automaker’s lineup.
This applies only to the “base” xDrive60 model with 536 hp. In 2024, it will be joined by the 650-horsepower M70, whose price will start at about $145,000.

The i7’s higher price is due to its unique features, such as doors that open and close completely at the push of a button, door-mounted touchscreen control panels, and an optional 31-inch entertainment screen that juts out from just below the sunroof.
The i7 has a driving range of up to 511 km and directly competes with other luxury electric sedans on this list, including the Lucid Air and Mercedes-Benz EQS.
Pricing starts at $120,295
4- Audi e-tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT may be one of the most beautifully designed electric cars on the market.
The base model produces 522 hp in Boost mode and goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. If you want more power, the 637-horsepower RS model will cost about $40,000 more, but it is capable of reaching 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds.
In addition to its attractive appearance, this electric cars is also one of the most fun electric cars to drive, along with its competitor, the Porsche Taycan.
Audi offers ample luxury and technology but is more focused on performance than other models like the Mercedes EQS and the very comfortable BMW i7. However, this great driving experience comes at the expense of driving range, as this car has some of the lowest EPA range estimates on this list at 373-383 km.
Pricing starts at $106,395
5- GMC Hummer EV and Hummer EV SUV
Whether you think the GMC Hummer EV is cool or not, one thing is certain and everyone agrees on: The stats for this electric beast are seriously mind-boggling.
GMC claims that the pickup truck can reach 60 mph in about 3 seconds in the top model, which generates about 1,000 horsepower. This is of course impressive considering that it weighs enough to be classified as a heavy duty truck.
The Hummer EV pickup truck also has a massive 212 kWh battery pack, which is larger than any other electric truck. This battery pack allows the car to be driven for a distance of 571 km on a full charge. There’s also a new version of this SUV with a smaller battery and a motor that generates up to 830 horsepower.
The Hummer, of course, has many high-tech off-road features and offers a hands-free Super Cruise driving system.
The price starts from $105,595 for the Hummer EV SUV version and $106,945 for the Hummer EV version.
6- Mercedes EQS and EQS SUV
The EQS and EQS SUV rank higher among Mercedes’ electric cars and both carry the same starting price ($105,550) and are offered in three basic powertrain configurations.

The base model of the Model X offers a good driving range of 560 km on a full charge. For an additional $10,000, you can upgrade to the 1,020 hp Plaid model that can reach 96 km/h in less than 3 seconds, making it one of the fastest SUVs in the world.

8- Porsche Taycan
Unlike other higher-priced electric cars on this list, the Taycan is available in a variety of trim levels with different power outputs and driving ranges.
The base model is priced under $100,000, while other models easily exceed six figures, with the top Turbo S approaching $200,000.
Porsche says the Turbo S sedan can reach 60 mph in 2.6 seconds with the Overboost function, which temporarily increases horsepower to 750 hp.
As with any Porsche, the Taycan’s outstanding handling prowess makes it fun to drive and features a sleek, futuristic design. Other expensive EVs may offer superior technology and longer ranges but aren’t as fun behind the wheel.
Price starts from $92,550
9- Tesla Model S
The Model S was one of the first mass-produced electric cars, and it remains one of the best cars in its class. The large and expensive electric sedan is available in a base model with a long driving range of up to 651 km. This, combined with Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, makes it an excellent choice for those who travel frequently.
The top Plaid model gets all the attention thanks to its 1,020 horsepower and is able to take the car from 0-100 km/h in just 1.99 seconds, according to Tesla, although the number may be slightly higher during real-world testing. For around $110,000, you can own one of the fastest-accelerating production cars in the world, and a car packed with plenty of cutting-edge technology to boot.
Price starts from $90,130
10- Lucid Air
The Lucid Air Pure ‘s starting price is reasonable for a large luxury electric sedan, but most versions exceed the six-figure threshold, with the $250,000 Sapphire topping the list.
The Sapphire model comes with a 1,200 horsepower motor, and is the most powerful electric car on this list. Lucid says it can reach 60 mph in less than two seconds, but as with the Model S Plaid, that can be difficult to achieve in the real world.
The Lucid Air is more than just a powerful car. The Grand Touring model has a driving range of 830 km, which is the longest range of any electric car. The Air is also one of the fastest charging electric cars, as it can add a maximum of 321 km in just 12 minutes when connected to a suitable fast charger.

SUVs will also be in showrooms. The Polestar 5, a Tesla Model S competitor, is also expected to enter production lines next year. And the Tesla Roadster, the high-performance electric sports car we’ve been promised for years, may finally be giving us its presence.
